Mel Brooks's greatest motion-picture triumph is a flawlessly loving recreation, and outrageous send-up, of the classic Universal horror movies of the '30s--James Whale's Frankenstein (and Bride of Frankenstein), of course, but also Tod Browning's Dracula and others. Except, of course, that here the mad doctor (a descendant of the original Frankenstein clan, played by Gene Wilder) insists that his name be pronounced "FRONK-en-shteen," and his hunchback assistant with the roving eyeball (Marty Feldman) is equally insistent on being called "EYE-gore."
