The Banyan Tree in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii
Go to Lahaina, park near the Banyan Tree, and find a free copy of
the Lahaina Historical Guide.
It's a great walk around town to view the historic sites, which are numbered, so you can
look them up in your book. It's cool (as long as you stay in the shade) and free,
but I recommend shelling out a few bucks for a beer near the middle of the walk.
You'll need it!

Free things to do in Historic Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii
The free, historic walking tour of Lahaina
Master's Reading Room, Front and Dickenson
Royal
Taro Patch, used to be on the makai (seaward) side of the Lahaina Library
Hauola
Stone, makai side of the taro patch, to your right up the beach, stone on your left,
with a Hawaii Visitors Bureau marker
Brick Palace,
just across Wharf St. from the Pioneer Inn (good place for that beer), Kamehameha's
headquarters
Sit under the Banyan
tree for a bit (while the beer sets in) then check out the old courthouse
The Fort Wall,
or what's left of it is at the north and south west corners of the courthouse block, and
very impressive (good story behind it, and the canons just across the street)
The
Marketplace and Canal, across Canal St. from the Banyan tree square, where the daily
business went down
A bunch of churches
and places that have been paved over, like the royal residence of Kamehameha III,
where there's parking lot where his pond used to be, by Maluluolele Park
Pass where David
Malo's home used to be (near Prison and Wainee Streets) to the Hale Paahao, or
Lahaina Prison (neat)
The Seaman's Cemetery
on Wainee between Dickenson and Paneawa Streets, although a lot of the headstones are gone
Back to Front St.
for the Ho Wing Temple (still free), or Chee Kung Tong as the ancient secret
society is known
The US
Seamen's Hospital (1024 Front), restored by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation,
and visitors are most welcome
A whole host of
other things to do cheap, and you can always get the latest special at Subway and drink
water if you can't afford to eat at Longhi's (but you should walk by, it's cool)
